The subject wifi adapter (dongle) already works based on the support for the [0e8d:2870] COMFAST CF-WU782AC WiFi Dongle so this is just a request to update the comments/documentation.

Suggested new comment line in 40-usb_modeswitch.rules

# COMFAST CF-WU782AC WiFi Dongle, TEROW ROW02FD WiFi Dongle
ATTR{idVendor}=="0e8d", ATTR{idProduct}=="2870", RUN+="usb_modeswitch '/%k'"

Suggested new comment line in file 0e8d:2870

# COMFAST CF-WU782AC WiFi Dongle, TEROW ROW02FD WiFi Dongle
TargetVendor=0x0e8d
TargetProduct=0x7612
StandardEject=1

Thanks.

Sorry but your request is rejected, we want to keep the data file pack small so that it consumes as little memory as possible. This is important when usb_modeswitch is used in embedded devices with limited memory.

The mfgr of the wifi chip is Mediatek (also owner of the VID) and there are many companies selling wifi dongles with this chip inside, usb_modeswitch can not/should not be used as a cross reference guide between them, the only thing that matters is the vid:pid.
The name listed in the data pack files is always the initially reported device name.

I second LOM's argument. In the beginning of it all, I collected device names with the idea of building a complete brand name reference.

I dropped that idea along the way because I realized it wasn't feasible, with all the rebrandings popping up.
