Usb_modeswitch and Initrd on Ubuntun 8.10/9.04

Post by Stefano » 08 Apr 2009, 10:41

Hi Forum

I'm doing a test:
I want to enter inside the initrd of Ubuntu 8.10 live a USB_modeswitch, so when the live CD, with a modem already inserted, the procedure should automatically switch the modem already put before the distribution start
.
The test I'm doing with the modem Huawei and ZTE.
now I can not even make the switch
Who wants to give me involved;?
I open to all help
Thanks

Hmm, interesting idea ...

I don't know much about creating ramdisk images, but I'll look into it when I'm back from Easter vacation.

hello,
I have included in the initrd three objects previously completed a Ubuntu 9:04
usb_modeswitch usb_modeswitch.conf libusb
to boot the switch does not work if the modem is attached before the computer start, and still does not work until they break and re-insert the modem
then it works
until detachment and reinsert the modem is a device Default but then the error
"Trying to send the message
Sending the message returned error -110"

mumble mumble mumble

Sorry, that's not really my turf. I suspect the USB subsystem was not properly started yet when USB_ModeSwitch was called.
But again, this is not my field of knowledge. Unfortunately, I have no time for digging deeper into this.
What is the reason you don't want to wait for the normal boot process, where the switching takes place anyway?
