Hello,
Firstly, I should mention that I’m still pretty new to Linux/Debian, so my understanding is quite limited.
I have a laptop with an NVIDIA GTX 1650 GPU. By default, Debian only loads the nouveau driver, which doesn’t give me proper performance. I tried following a few online guides to install the proprietary NVIDIA driver.
I installed nvidia-driver via apt, rebooted, and checked with lsmod. It looks like the NVIDIA kernel module is loaded, and nvidia-smi even shows my GPU correctly. However, when I try to launch any game or run CUDA programs, the system either crashes or reverts to using the integrated Intel GPU. Take Care Of Shadow Milk
I also tried purging the drivers and reinstalling using the NVIDIA .run file from their website, but that didn’t improve the situation. I keep ending up with black screens or X failing to start.
I feel like I’m missing something basic in the configuration, but I don’t know what. Any suggestions or guidance would be very much appreciated.
